South America begins overhere
A hidden gem where Colombia ends and the continent begins
Tucked between the lush jungles of the Darién and the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean, Sapzurro is a small, peaceful village that feels frozen in time. It’s the last stop on Colombia’s northern coast before crossing into Panama via the scenic La Miel trail, making it a must-see for backpackers, nature lovers, and explorers heading to or from San Blas.

How to Get There
-
From Medellín: Fly to Acandí or Capurganá, then take a short boat ride to Sapzurro.
-
From Necoclí (via land + sea): Travel by road to Necoclí, then take a speedboat to Capurganá and continue by boat or a short jungle trail to Sapzurro.
-
From Cartagena (by sea): Join a multi-day sailboat trip or private charter along the Caribbean coast with stops in the San Blas Islands before arriving at Sapzurro or Capurganá. Alternatively, overland to Necoclí from Cartagena (via Montería or Turbo) and continue by boat.
-
From Panama (via San Blas): Travel through the San Blas Islands by sailboat or speedboat (usually 3–5 days), entering Colombia at La Miel and walking across the hill into Sapzurro.
Immigration services are available in Puerto Obaldía (Panama) and Capurganá (Colombia), making it an official crossing point for adventurous travelers.
